A CALL TO ACTION IN SUPPORT OF CHANGE AT AUSTIN ANIMAL CENTER

Click “Count Me In” to get notified when the next event is scheduled. Until Don is Done, our work here is not.

WHY?

Austin Animal Center has been in a management crisis for quite some time. Led by Don Bland, poor leadership at AAC has led to constant overcrowding, constantly limited intake, stakeholder alienation, and repeated threats and steps toward abandoning the City of Austin’s commitment to No Kill.  AAC Management has created an urgent placement list of 29 dogs whose lives are under constant threat by shelter decision-makers.

Don Bland continues to lead by distrust, misinformation, and emotional manipulation as he leverages the lives of these dogs to put Austin Animal Center on the path to manage space by killing healthy, placeable dogs – regularly and routinely and our City Council, City Manager, and Mayor, Kirk Watson, refuse to take action. Our city and its dogs deserve better.

CAN’T ATTEND IN PERSON EVENTS?

HERE’S HOW YOU CAN HELP US EFFECT POSITIVE CHANGE FOR AUSTIN’S ANIMALS

  • EMAIL Kirk Watson, the mayor for the City of Austin.  Ask him to course correct at Austin Animal Center by removing Don Bland and his leadership team.  Question him about his commitment to and support of No Kill.  Make it clear that Austin’s continued commitment to No Kill is an important issue as you look to cast your ballot in November.

  • EMAIL your City Council Member.  Ask him/her/them to course correct at Austin Animal Center by removing Don Bland and his leadership team.  Question him/her/them about his/her/their commitment to and support of No Kill.  Make it clear that Austin’s continued commitment to No Kill is an important issue as you look to cast your ballot in November.

  • FOSTER or ADOPT from Austin Animal Center or one of it’s rescue partners (Austin Pets Alive or Austin Humane Society) – any kennel space that opens up will be lifesaving.
